Irregular menstruation, signs of too many male hormones (increased hair growth, acne and/or increased androgens in the blood) and typically enlarged ovaries on ultrasound with many small follicles characterize the picture. Those affected have an increased risk of developing diabetes. PCOS can be treated with lifestyle changes such as weight reduction and exercise, with diabetes medication and with hormones.

Being pregnant is a significant and very special event.

We will take care of you during your pregnancy until the birth.
For the birth itself, we will refer you to the clinic of your choice or a Geburtshaus.
During pregnancy, various ultrasound and blood tests are carried out in consultation with the parents-to-be in order to detect diseases in the mother and the unborn child at an early stage. We offer these examinations in our prenatal consultation. We carry out the ultrasound examinations using the latest generation of state-of-the-art equipment.
11th to 14th week of pregnancy
- First trimester test, ETT An ultrasound examination is carried out at this time, which includes an assessment of growth and organs as well as measurement of the baby's nuchal fold. If this is widened, this can be an indication of a possible chromosomal disorder, such as Down's syndrome. If the ultrasound examination is inconspicuous, a blood sample is taken from the mother. The risk of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 13 or 18 can be calculated from the blood values, the ultrasound measurement and the mother's age.
- Non-invasive prenatal test, NIPT In addition to the ETT, it is possible to carry out an additional blood test on the mother to rule out genetic abnormalities in the child. NIPT involves the analysis of DNA fragments that originate from the child and circulate in the mother's blood. If the ETT shows an increased risk of trisomy 13, 18 or 21, the NIPT is covered by health insurance. However, parents are free to have the NIPT carried out at their own expense even without an abnormal ETT.
- Pre-eclampsia screeningPre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication that occurs in up to 8% of all pregnancies. It manifests itself as an increase in blood pressure and protein excretion in the urine of the mother and can have serious consequences for the mother and the unborn child. Pre-eclampsia screening (ultrasound examination of the uterine blood vessels, blood pressure measurement and blood sampling from the mother) is used to calculate the risk of pre-eclampsia occurring. If the risk is increased, the intake of low-dose aspirin is recommended to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia.
22nd week of pregnancy
- Second Trimester ScreeningIn this examination, all of the baby's organs are carefully examined by ultrasound to rule out malformations
Doppler sonography
- Doppler sonography measures the blood flow in the fetal and maternal blood vessels. This may be necessary to monitor the child's growth.
3D ultrasound
- If the ultrasound conditions are good, we will be happy to carry out a 3D examination of the child for you
In the cardiotocogram monitors the baby's heartbeat and any contractions in the mother. The examination takes 30 to 40 minutes.
A postpartum check-up is recommended 6 to 8 weeks after the birth. This is where the breasts, any birth injuries and the involution of the uterus are examined. There will also be a discussion about further birth control.
